At IUPUI, the Integrated Nanosystems Development Institute (INDI) strives to advance nanotechnology research, education, and outreach. From innovation to translation, research within INDI’s two focus areas of Bionanotechnology and Nanoenergy not only take advantage of unique campus strengths but also the expertise of the surrounding industries. Understanding that transformative developments in nanotechnology stem from multidisciplinary research, INDI is composed of a diverse group of professors and staff from Schools that span Engineering & Technology, Science, Medicine, and Dentistry, a structure that fosters collaboration.
From humble beginnings, comprised of only a small lab, INDI’s success is showcased through its rapid growth into what is now a multi-facility institute that impacts the surrounding region, and nation, via cutting-edge instrumentation resources (from nanoscale fabrication to characterization), innovative curriculum development (establishing one of the first research-based nanotechnology undergraduate programs in the nation), high impact research and outreach (with multiple NSF-funded K-12 and undergraduate summer programs). Together, INDI has not only set out to boost research efforts, but to influence and grow the nation’s future workforce, providing students with multidisciplinary coursework, research experiences, and engaging content that promotes communication, broadening participation, and interest in advanced STEM learning and careers.
I am honored to be the Director of INDI and am dedicated to keeping INDI’s on its current trajectory: providing researchers, industry professionals, and students with the tools, resources, insight, and the collaborative environment needed to inspire innovation.
